DROWNING ANALYSIS
Diatom Analysis is the detection of diatoms – or plankton – in water, and is a valuable aid to proving death by ingestion of water when found in the internal organs of the body of a suspected drowning victim
Samples of water suitable for this type of analysis include rivers and lakes (freshwater), brackish water (tidal water from estuaries and as far inland as the River Thames), seawater, puddles and bath-water
Organ samples can include:
· LUNG (uncut)
· KIDNEY (still within it’s capsule)
· WHOLE FEMUR/LEG BONE (when body is decomposed)
Derek has performed Drowning Analysis in several hundred cases, and is a recognised expert in the method and analysis of diatom investigation.
THIS SERVICE IS OFFERED THROUGH
· Work is generally conducted within a few days of referral
· Results are conveyed on the day of completion
